Music Review: Living Colour - CBGB OMFUG Masters - Live August 19, 2005 - The Bowery Collection

New York natives Living Colour are no strangers to the legendary and as of 2006, deceased NYC CBGB rock club, which supported live acts for 33 years. The band, known for its unique fusion of heavy metal, funk, reggae and other genres and influenced by everyone from Fishbone and Bad Brains to Jimi Hendrix, played at the world’s “most important punk rock club” in the 1980s, when no one knew who they were and then later, at the height of its (Living Colour’s) popularity late in the decade.

Music Review: Roy Orbison - The Best Of The Soul Of Rock and Roll

The Soul Of Rock and Roll by Roy Orbison is a massive career spanning four disc, 107 song set. The Best Of The Soul Of Rock and Roll is an independent 18 song, single disc that is basically a sampler of the larger set. Obviously, if you are a fan of Orbison or of early rock ‘n’ roll the big box set is essential. If you would just like a sample of the Orbison sound or cannot afford the big one then this disc will do just fine.

Roy Orbison was an important figure in the early development of rock ‘n’ roll.

Interview: Raphael Saadiq - Singer, Songwriter and Producer

Interview: Raphael Saadiq - Singer, Songwriter and Producer image
With all things considered, Raphael Saadiq is the thread that has weaved the fabric of contemporary soul music together. His midas touch has turned the careers of countless "soul sisters"—Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige—and "soul brothers"—John Legend, Musiq Soulchild and D'Angelo—into gold. And while his artistic resume is largely unknown by the masses, such high-profile collaborations expose a mere fraction of Saadiq's musical contributions.

Music DVD Review: Widespread Panic - Live from Austin, TX

Written by Fumo Verde

If you can catch Austin City Limits, then do so for you may get a chance to see something like this. The band from Georgia plays an amazing show on a Halloween Night in 2000. This DVD will be a special one for the hardcore fans, for it features the late, great Michael Houser.

From what I’ve been told and have read, a Panic show is never the same nor do they play each song the same way, ever.

Music Review: Tilly and the Wall - o

Some may see Tilly and the Wall as a gimmick; those people are missing out. The band is infamous for having a clogging percussionist instead of a traditional drummer. On their first album, Wild Like Children, they were meek about this. They downplayed the clogging and included more traditional percussion than they have since then.

On 2006’s Bottoms of Barrels, the clogging seemed to be where the emotion was coming from. The clogging brought energy and a sense of joy to the songs.

Music Review: Vindictiv - Vindictiv

Vindictiv may not be a band name that resonates with many listeners, yet the group boasts some notable credentials. As such, their self-titled debut album, released some months back on the Escape Music label, warrants a closer look.

On lead vocals is former Yngwie Malmsteen and Brazon Abbot singer, Goran Edman. This first release from Vindictiv captures Edman, who appeared on Malmsteen’s Eclipse album, in excellent form. This connection is further carried forward by some highly impressive Yngwie-style guitar from Stefan Lindholm.
