Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer run over in Belfast

Dresden Dolls' Amanda Palmer run over in Belfast image
The Dresden Dolls’ frontwoman Amanda Palmer was run over in Belfast yesterday (September 28), breaking her toe and three metatarsals in her right foot. The singer/pianist was run over ahead of her solo gig at the Auntie Annie’s venue. She was taken to Belfast City hospital where she was given crutches to use and her leg was put in a cast. Palmer played the gig wearing the cast, and performed at the City Hall earlier in the day, where she had organised to play an impromptu show for fans under 18 years of age via MySpace.

Rosie O’Donnell’s Message to Clay Aiken (E! Online)

Rosie O'Donnell's Message to Clay Aiken (E! Online) image
Rosie O'Donnell kept her comments short and very sweet. "I love Clay," she said. "He is a beautiful man in every way." Neil G. Giuliano, president of media watchdog group GLAAD, says that Aiken's new honesty will help reach people who most need to be educated about issues facing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. "Clay has a strong following of folks that it's important to reach with our message about LGBT equality," Giuliano told me earlier today.

Music Review: Brian ‘Head’ Welch - Save Me From Myself

Music Review: Brian 'Head' Welch - Save Me From Myself image
Frankly, I am surprised I like this album as much as I do. I have to admit that the prospect of a 'Head' solo album did not hold much excitement for me. I am a Korn fan from way back. From the moment I first heard the cymbal-tapping opening to "Blind" I knew this was a band for me. They were different, heavy, and insidiously catchy. Sure, they came after Rage Against the Machine and Faith No More (well, "Epic" anyway), but it is Korn that led the so-called nu-metal movement of the early and mid-1990s.

International News: Justin Martin’s Radiohead remix licensed

International News: Justin Martin's Radiohead remix licensed image
One of Claude Von Stroke’s Dirtybird partners-in-crime, Justin Martin is gearing up for the release of his second Chaos Restored mix CD for Ben Watt’s Buzzin Fly label next month. It’s something of a coup, but Martin’s had his unofficial remix of Radiohead’s track Nude cleared to feature on the compilation. Martin downloaded the parts for Nude from the Radiohead website earlier this year when the seminal band launched a remix competition.

Music Review: Rick Danko Band - Live On Breeze Hill

Recorded live on May 23, 1998 and originally released just a couple months before Rick Danko’s death at the age of 56, the reissue of Live On Breeze Hill is a solid and occasionally surprising album that finds the Band bassist performing songs from his time with that fabled, er, band.

Supported by a backing group that includes fellow Bander Garth Hudson, Aaron “Louie” Hurwitz, Lenny Pickett, and Blues Brother alum Tom “Bones” Malone, Danko reinterprets Band standards, sometimes in a way that reveals striking differences from their better-known studio versions.

Though these live cuts don’t surpass those from Danko’s days with The Band, it’s certainly not a maudlin trip into pointless nostalgia or a case of a performer simply reliving his glory days at the audience’s expense.

Blu-ray Music DVD Review: AC/DC - No Bull (Director’s Cut)

Stop me if you've heard this one before.  The director's cut of AC/DC's No Bull is a lot like slapping lipstick on a pig.  While the simile may not be appropriate for political debate, it does apply to this director's cut of AC/DC's No Bull.

Music Review: Bob Dylan - New Morning

New Morning arrived a mere four months after the disappointing Self Portrait yet the two albums were like night and day. Gone were the cover songs, live tracks, and traditional folk songs and back was an album of original compositions. New Morning is sparse in places, simple, and earthy. It would begin the process of Dylan’s transition back toward a rock sound. While the albums were not released consecutively, I consider New Morning as part of a trilogy of releases that would lead to Planet Waves and culminate in the brilliant Blood On The Tracks.

Music Review: Bob Dylan - Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid

Bob Dylan wasn’t doing much in 1971 or 1972 for that matter. This led him to an interview with director Sam Peckinpah with the hope of providing the soundtrack for his new movie, Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid. Peckinpah was not really familiar with Dylan or his music but allowed him to play a few tunes. Dylan was rewarded with the job of scoring the movie. He also managed to acquire a acting role as well. The film, starring James Coburn, Kris Kristofferson and the immortal Slim Pickens, would be an average movie.
