Music Review: Madonna - Hard Candy
In 1983, at age 11, I saved up the appropriate funds, earned from doing chores around the house, to buy Madonna’s self-titled debut record. When I had first heard “Holiday” on the radio that previous summer, I was entranced. It sounded a little like the disco my aunts and uncles used to listen to and a little like the R&B songs that were popular at the time but overall it was dripping with a confidence and personality I had never heard before.
25 years later, I’m still a fan and throughout her career Madonna has continued to produce pop songs that entered uncharted territory.

Music Review: Buckcherry - 15
Written by General Jabbo
Buckcherry came out of the late '90s Hollywood music scene as seemingly a breath a fresh air to those fed up with grunge and longing for the gritty rock and roll of yesteryear. Their self-titled debut didn’t disappoint. With infectious riff after riff and sing-along choruses, the band drew comparisons to Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns ‘N Roses and The Sex Pistols.

Liars Spice up Radiohead Tour With Headlining Shows
![]()
Photo by Nilina Mason-Campbell Even though they plan to spend a good deal of their spring and summer opening for music-industry-revolutionizing rock royalty, Liars haven’t forgotten the little people. And by "little people" we mean those unable or unwilling to pay heftier ticket prices to watch Angus writhe around on a jumbotron. And by all of that we mean, "Liars have sandwiched some smaller club shows in between their dates opening for Radiohead." Most of these new shows are in the U.S.

Jack White gets emotional at Coachella

Bathed in blue lights as the sun went down, The Raconteurs played a storming set at the Coachella Festival tonight (April 25). Jack White’s band gave their first-ever Coachella performance for a huge crowd at the main stage. White, dressed all in black with sideburns almost to his chin, maintained a look of utter concentration throughout nearly the entire set, whether playing extended guitar riffs or swapping harmonies with Brendan Benson.

Coachella Day One: Jack Johnson, The Raconteurs, The Verve
![]()
As the afternoon of Coachella Day One wore on, the sounds of electric guitars getting jacked into high gear called everyone’s attention back to the main stage, where the Raconteurs were settling in. “I haven’t seen the sun in weeks,” goes the first line of “The Saboteurs” (though nobody in the heat-baked crowd could truly make that claim), and Jack White, decked out in all black, moseyed over to Brendan Benson as the two guitarists faced off and worked at their instruments.

The massive stash of memorabilia, documenting the band's journey from its Haight Ashbury-influenced inception in 1965 to the present, will be housed within the University Library's Special Collections, in an area to be specially designated "Dead Central." "We looked around, and UC Santa Cruz seems the best possible home," Weir said at a press conference at the famed Fillmore Auditorium—one of the Dead's old haunts—in San Francisco.
