Music Review: Bobaflex - Tales From Dirt Town
So I’d been hearing about these Bobaflex guys for awhile, right? I didn’t know anything about them or what they sounded like, though. I finally came across a vague description of them being sort of stoneriffic, so I decided to check them out and it turned out to be one of those rare blind purchases that I didn’t regret at all.
I brought home Tales From Dirt Town, put it in the old 5-disc changer, and happily went along with my evening.

“Something’s gonna be done,” a representative for the Independent Spirit Awards, who did not want to be named, told MTV News.

Jason Forrest Returns With New DJ Donna Summer LP
![]()
Like Madlib or Matthew Dear, the many incarnations of Jason Forrest can be hard to follow. One minute, he’s just Jason Forrest. The next, he’s got a band. And then there’s Donna Summer, an alias he hasn’t used for a release in five years but under which he’s releasing his new album, Panther Tracks. To make things even more confusing, the record is actually credited to DJ Donna Summer. Confusion aside, we know Panther Tracks exists, contains music, and will hit shelves on March 24 via Forrest’s own Cock Rock Disco label.

Sparklehorse Leave Astralwerks/Capitol
![]()
Photo by Kirstie Shanley With the major label system as we know it very much on the rocks, musical casualties are turning up left and right. Whether they’ve been cold dropped without mercy or merely freed from the bonds of corporate oppression is probably a matter of perspective more than anything, but few would argue that the era of million-plus first week sellers is long over. Which leaves one to wonder how Mark Linkous and his Sparklehorse are feeling right about now, having parted ways with former home Astralwerks [via EW.com].

Brooks Bears Down For L.A. Residency
Preparing for five major concerts over a two-day period is no easy task, but organizers of Garth Brooks’ upcoming wildfire benefit shows in Los Angeles are “confident we can do it,” Staples Center senior VP/GM Lee Zeidman tells Billboard.

International News: Jamie Lidell confirms long-awaited new album
![]()
Soul revisionist Jamie Lidell will follow up his much-revered 2005 album Multiply with the unfussily-titled Jim. And you only have to wait till late April! The new LP, to be released through Warp, is preceded by a press release that reveals little. “Jamie is Jim. Let’s clear that up straight away,” it reads. Fair enough. Here’s a clip that’s been floating round the internet, showing Lidell and band rehearsing a toe-tapping new song. Let’s hope a tour isn’t too far off.

Sad News for Lily Allen The British singer has reportedly suffered a miscarriage, after annoucing her pregnancy last month. Sadness.
