Maybe I wasn't paying attention back when The Rising came out, but there appears to be an insane pre-release buzz going on with Bruce Springsteen's Magic. Whether the "leak" of the "Radio Nowhere" single was truly that, or another piece of the plan, there's no denying that there's some crazy rock and roll entropy building.

The pre-tour rehearsal shows have been the subject of much Internet yakkery.

I'm hard pressed to explain why I liked this show, because seeing it reaffirmed what I have long suspected. I don't like rock.

I don't mean rock and roll. I mean rock. I think it takes a certain kind of metabolism to understand lyrics that are yelled or screamed into a mic at about the same decibel level as the guitar and bass and keyboard and drums and horns and something that sounds like a subway car hemorrhaging.

Dave Mustaine has had quite a career, and is still going strong. If you have any doubt of his continuing relevance to the metal world, just check the latest Megadeth release United Abominations.

Even if some of the recent outings have not lived up to Megadeth's legacy, this 2007 release is a return to form. Ever since his exit from a then up and coming Metallica, Mustaine has forged ahead in his own direction with his brainchild, Megadeth. I mention Mustaine more than Megadeth, as he is Megadeth.

When the Beatles broke up in 1970, it was assumed that John, Paul, and George would have successful solo careers. John's first solo album of popular music was released in 1969. McCartney's album was released the month that the Beatles broke up in April 1970. Harrison's album, Wonderwall Music, was released in 1968. It was uncertain if Ringo Starr would be successful as a solo artist.

No one would question his drumming capabilities, or his acting abilities, but as a songwriter and vocalist, he was different than the other Beatles.

The early 1960s were a time of change in the jazz world. People like Miles Davis were beginning to investigate and incorporate other musical styles and formats and broadening the definition of what constituted jazz. There were the experiments with the music of other cultures and their integration into compositions, and this was followed by fusing jazz with elements of pop music, specifically funk.Soloists were starting to lean toward more and more complex improvisations in their performances as they looked for newer and different ways to express the themes of a piece of music.

Hard as fuck Tampa-based electro-rap trio-turned-duo Yo Majesty– about which everything you’ve heard is probably true– have signed with Domino Records in the U.S. and UK, home to the less-frequently-topless likes of Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys.
