A Colony of Heaven
When it comes to the message, Will McFarlane doesn’t mess around. In A Colony of Heaven, his second album on Refuge Records, he presents the gospel like it is – a message of good news for those who not only hear, but obey. Switching from light rock to inspirational to rhythm and blues and back again, the singer paints a varied musical portrait of his convictions and artistry.
McFarlane is no master lyricist, however, Many of his rhymes are forced, and many lines lack luster.

The Tuesday Morning Purchase - Henry Kaiser, Heaven & Hell, and a Band That’s Large, Not Big
I've been feeling kind of odd over the past couple of days. It must have something to do with the weather. To be more precise, Saturday's weather. Me and TheWife™ went on the hunt for used antique windows at a salvage yard. We found more than enough. Enough that we had to drive back in the Jeep with the top down. No big deal, except that somehow we neglected to bring sunscreen AND hats. I think my brain got cooked.
Anyhoo, there's a very good (if odd) selection of new stuff and reissues coming out today.

Music Review: Ravish Momin’s Trio Tarana Miren (A Longing)
![]()
When I used to work in theatre, in another life, in a land far, far away known as Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the majority of the work I was involved with was improvisation. As anyone who has done any improvisational work on the stage knows there is an incredibly fine line between coming up with something brilliant and stinking the house out.Their are a few secrets to good improvisation in theatre; decide on a beginning, middle and end for each scene, know what information the audience needs to be told for the story to make sense, and trust your instincts.

Music Review: Various Artists - Chasing the Sun: The Greatest Songs of Summer
So here I am thinking of finally getting around to reviewing this cool set of summer music that had come my way. Finally an angle popped into my head. But just as soon as that idea made itself known, the weather shifted and things got weird. Up here in New England, we went from super hot and humid to crisp, dry and decidedly autumn. At the same time, the rest of the country was baking in oppressive summer heat.
